📍 Dobbiaco, Italy → Lienz, Austria
đźš´ Approximately 70 km
⛰️ Easy route, mostly downhill
🔋 Perfect for both e-bikes and regular bicycles
Cycle from Italy to Austria in a single day, following one of the most beautiful and enjoyable cycling routes in the Alps.
Our journey begins in the charming mountain town of Dobbiaco (Toblach), close to the source of the River Drau, and follows the famous Drau Cycle Path (Drauradweg) all the way to Lienz in Austria.
One of the great advantages of this route is its gentle profile. Much of the journey follows a gradual downhill slope, making the approximately 70-kilometre distance surprisingly enjoyable even for cyclists without extensive long-distance cycling experience.
The route is largely separated from road traffic, allowing us to concentrate on the landscape and enjoy the journey at a comfortable pace.

🌲 Beautiful forests and mountain landscapes
🏔️ Views of the Dolomites and the Eastern Alps
đź’§ The crystal-clear waters of the River Drau
🌼 Alpine meadows and picturesque villages
📸 Plenty of panoramic viewpoints and photo stopsThroughout the ride, we’ll stop regularly to enjoy the scenery, take photographs and discover interesting stories about the nature, history and culture of the region.
This is not a race. The idea is to enjoy the journey, the landscape and the experience of crossing from Italy into Austria by bicycle.

Our destination is Lienz, a charming Tyrolean town surrounded by mountains.
After arriving, we’ll have time to explore its historic centre, with its attractive squares, cafés, traditional Alpine architecture and relaxed atmosphere.
You can stop for an Austrian coffee and cake, enjoy an ice cream, browse the local shops or simply relax after our ride.
We’ll also have time for lunch in Lienz before beginning our journey back.

And the best part? We don’t have to cycle the 70 kilometres back.
After enjoying Lienz, we’ll take the train back to Dobbiaco, making this a wonderfully relaxed way to experience a full day of cycling through two countries.
A perfect tour for those who want to combine cycling, Alpine landscapes, nature and a little taste of both Italy and Austria in one unforgettable day.
