Urban Hike in Bolzano: From the Old Town to the Renon Plateau

Discover Bolzano from a different perspective — from its historic streets to the panoramic landscapes high above the city.

Explore Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, on a unique urban adventure combining history, local culture, food and spectacular mountain scenery.

This is much more than a traditional city tour. Over the course of the day, we’ll experience the many different sides of Bolzano — its historic centre and hidden corners, its unique blend of Alpine and Italian influences, and the beautiful mountain landscapes that begin just minutes away from the city.

Our day starts early, while the narrow streets of the old town are still quiet and before the city fills with visitors. We’ll begin with breakfast in a traditional local café or pastry shop, enjoying freshly baked pastries and a good Italian coffee before setting off to explore.

From there, we’ll step into Bolzano’s fascinating past, walking through some of its most beautiful historic streets and discovering the stories, architecture and traditions that have shaped the city over the centuries.

From the City to the Mountains

Then comes a complete change of scenery. We’ll take the famous Renon Cable Car (Rittner Seilbahn) and, within minutes, leave the city behind as we climb towards the beautiful Renon Plateau.

From above, spectacular views open up across Bolzano and towards the surrounding Dolomite peaks.

The atmosphere changes completely: fresh mountain air, forests, meadows and wide Alpine panoramas replace the streets of the city below.

Our journey continues aboard the charming historic Renon railway, one of the most distinctive experiences in the area.

After a short train ride, we’ll continue on foot through the peaceful landscape to discover the remarkable Earth Pyramids of Renon — unusual natural formations sculpted by erosion over thousands of years.

A Taste of South Tyrol

After our walk, it will be time to experience another essential part of South Tyrol: its food.

We’ll stop at a traditional restaurant to enjoy regional dishes inspired by local recipes, accompanied, if you wish, by excellent South Tyrolean wines.

At the end of the day, we’ll return to the heart of Bolzano, where you can continue exploring at your own pace, stroll through the evening streets or simply relax over a coffee or an aperitivo.

This experience brings together city life, history, mountains, local traditions and food in a single day — a wonderful way to discover just how much South Tyrol has to offer beyond the classic sightseeing tour.
