Sasso della Croce & Armentara Meadows

A journey through peaceful Alpine meadows to one of the most spiritual places in the Dolomites.

This is one of the most atmospheric hikes in the Dolomites for those who want to leave the busiest tourist trails behind and discover a quieter, more authentic side of the mountains.

Our approximately 10-kilometre route takes us through the famous Armentara Meadows — vast Alpine grasslands covered in wildflowers during the summer and surrounded by the magnificent peaks of Alta Badia. Far from the crowds, the open meadows create a wonderful feeling of space, silence and connection with nature.

The hike begins among flower-filled meadows and traditional pastures before gradually leading us onto wilder mountain trails. As we climb higher, the landscape opens up and the views become increasingly spectacular.

Our destination is Sasso della Croce, a mountain with deep spiritual significance for the local community. Here, beneath the dramatic rock walls, stands the historic Sanctuary of Santa Croce, a place of pilgrimage that has attracted local people and travelers for centuries.

From this extraordinary setting, we can enjoy magnificent views across the Dolomites.

On a clear day, the panorama stretches towards Marmolada and its glacier, as well as the dramatic peaks of the Puez-Odle group and some of the most beautiful landscapes of Alta Badia.

After the hike, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch at a traditional Alpine farmhouse, where you can taste local cheeses and homemade South Tyrolean dishes while relaxing among mountain meadows and spectacular views.

A perfect experience for those looking for more than just a beautiful hike — combining nature, local culture, history, traditions and the peaceful atmosphere of a lesser-known corner of the Dolomites.
